John Rydell spent more than 30 years as a political reporter for WBFF-TV Fox 45 and Maryland Public Television. In 2003, Baltimore Magazine named him “Baltimore’s Best TV Reporter.” John has been inducted into the “Silver Circle” of the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which honors excellence in the broadcast industry for 25 years. Throughout his career, he covered six Maryland governors, seven Baltimore mayors and thousands of elected officials. John has won more than 25 journalism awards, including four Capital Region Emmy awards, three “Dateline” awards from the Washington D.C. Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, including one for coverage of the D.C. area snipers. John is currently a freelance writer for Maryland Matters, a political website as well as the Baltimore Jewish Times and other publications. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communications from Towson University. Although he grew up in Silver Spring, John has lived in Northwest Baltimore County for more than 40 years.
