Rabbi Harry J. Karp (Tzvi)
Humanities Instructor
Harry hails from the Catskills but has been educated and lived most of his life right here in Baltimore.
He is a graduate of Ner Israel and Towson State University. Harry divides his experience between the young and the more mature. He has taught all of the grades over the years in schools of Baltimore,Annapolis, Virginia Beach, Lancaster, Silver Spring and Kiamesha Lake N.Y. Those experiences cover special education, Russian Jewish Outreach, and being a youth activities director in several locations. You can add camp experience as well, in Silver Spring, Baltimore and Upstate N.Y. When the knees were stronger Harry ran a Torah and Hiking camp travelling all over this area.
As time moved on, he gravitated more toward adult education, beginning with his downtown Torah luncheons for businessmen, based at Esquire Title. This gave birth to history and Torah lectures at many venues both Jewish and non.
Harry does maintain groups who learn Talmud and Halacha as well. This has been for some time and actually continued throughout Covid. The Myerberg though, has been the center of his attention for years now. He began with lectures on Great Jews in Sports, Jewish Gangsters and the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 and hasn’t stopped researching varied fields of interest ever since. Most of his lectures gravitate to things of some Jewish connection, but not always. Harry especially enjoyed classes about Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Louis Armstrong, ( honestly though, Jewish connections crawl in there as well.
