Joseph Paul Cassar
Art Instructor
Joseph Paul Cassar is an artist, art historian, curator and educator. He is a Professor of Art at the University of Maryland Global Campus with the Department of Art and Graphic Communications.
He served as a freelance art critic for “The Daily News” and “The Times of Malta” writing art reviews on major exhibitions. He has published several books on the Modern and Contemporary Art of the Mediterranean island of Malta, some of which have won recognition for scholarly excellence. He has lectured at various educational institutions in Europe and the United States. He served as art curator for the International Art Center St James Cavalier in Valletta Malta in–charge of the visual arts programe, and established an artist-in-residence program with the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, incorporating architects, musicians, writers, and visual artists.
He lectures at the Smithsonian Institution, Johns Hopkins University, Towson University, Notre Dame University of Maryland, at the Hirshhorn Museum and Walters Art Museum, among others. He has also lectured at the new MUZA Museum in the city of Valletta, at the National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta as well as the Victor Pasmore Gallery and Foundation.
In November 2019, the Malta Society of Arts in Malta awarded a gold medal to Joseph Paul Cassar for his lifelong contribution to the arts worldwide.
